If you are generally healthy and between the ages of 19-21 you should have a wellness exam every 2-3 years. If you are between the ages of 22-64 you should have a wellness exam every 1-3 years, and if you are over 65 you should be having a wellness exam every year. However, everyone has different medical needs and your physical schedule will depend on your situation.
At a minimum, you should have your blood pressure checked every 2 years, make sure all of your vaccinations are up to date, and receive your annual flu shot. If you are over 40 you need to have your cholesterol checked every 5 years and screen for colorectal cancer (yearly with a fecal occult blood test or a colonoscopy every 10 years). Smokers over 55 (and smokers who’ve quit fewer than 15 years ago need regular lung cancer screenings). Men and women each have their own health guidelines such as pap smears and prostate exams that need to be performed according to age and health risk.
