Over the last year we have all found ourselves asking a lot of questions about COVID-19. Am I feeling symptoms? Should I get tested? Should I quarantine? Russell Medical is here to help you by offering COVID-19 testing in addition to our extensive list of services.
Who Should Get Tested for COVID-19
Not everyone needs to be tested, but the following sets of people should be tested. People who have:
- symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms range from mild symptoms to severe illness and appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, including but not limited to: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or diarrhea.
- had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
- taken part in high risk activities such as travel or attending gatherings.
- been referred by their healthcare provider.
The Importance of COVID-19 Testing
Frequent and widespread testing is important so that asymptomatic people can change their behaviors and to help health officials stay informed and better understand the pandemic. People who test positive and have symptoms can also get care earlier, have their contacts traced, and can quarantine or self-isolate sooner, helping to stop the spread of the virus. However, testing is not 100% accurate. It is possible to receive a false negative but actually be infected or receive a false positive but not be infected, which is why it is necessary to always follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 guidelines (practice social distancing, wear a mask, etc.) until further notice.
